SONCAP certification

The standard organization of Nigeria (son) is the government agency responsible for the formulation and implementation of quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products in Nigeria. The World Trade Organization (WTO) issued the TBT circular (No. g / TBT / Nga / 1), Nigeria will implement mandatory conformity assessment for some electronic and electrical products, some automotive products, toys, building materials and gas appliances imported into the country, namely the standards organization of Nigeria conformity assessment program, Short for SONCAP. SONCAP has been officially implemented since December 1, 2005. The SONCAP certificate is a mandatory customs clearance document for imported goods required by the federal government of Nigeria.

In order to strengthen market supervision, son will implement the new system on April 1, 2013. The new system requires exporters to apply for COC certificate instead of SONCAP certificate for each shipment. Exporters choose certification scheme according to their own situation, obtain different PC (product certificate) certificates, and apply for COC certificate based on PC certificate. After getting the COC, provide it to the importer to apply for SC (SONCAP certification). SC is directly applied by the importer in the local SONCAP organization. In addition, according to the risk category of the product, it is required to conduct on-site sampling test, inspection and loading supervision.

The new scheme of SONCAP includes three authentication ways

1. Scheme A: for unregistered or unlicensed products, it is suitable for customers who occasionally ship or whose shipment times are uncertain in a year.

Issue PC1 certificate. The certificate is valid for 6 months and can only be used once. The holder has no requirement. There is no factory inspection requirement. 100% inspection rate is required for each shipment.

2. Scheme B: for registered products, suitable for customers with high shipping frequency.

Issue PC2 certificate. The certificate is valid for one year, and the number of use is unlimited. The holder has no requirement. Factory inspection is required (factory inspection can be exempted by submitting ISO9000 / cig023). 40% inspection rate is required for each shipment.

3. Scheme C: for licensed products, it is suitable for customers with high frequency and large volume.

Issue PC3 certificate. The certificate is valid for one year, and the number of use is unlimited. It can only be applied by the manufacturer. Factory inspection and annual review are required (required, no exemption). The goods are inspected every six months.

Product range

Since June 2011, all products have been included in the SONCAP mandatory control list, except for the following: (1) food, (2) drugs, (3) medical supplies (except equipment and instruments), (4) chemical raw materials, (5) military supplies and equipment, (6) aviation related products, (7) second-hand products (except motor vehicles)

Application process

1. The laboratory completes the test and issues the test report

2. The customer chooses the corresponding scheme according to the actual situation and obtains the corresponding PC certificate based on the test report

3. Apply for inspection or factory inspection (exemption from inspection) based on PC certificate

4. Apply for COC certificate after passing the inspection

5. The importer applies for SC certificate from son based on COC

Certification mark

1. Requirements for product identification and package identification of general products:

(1) Marking shall be in English. The marking shall be clearly discernible, legible and indelible.

The logo should be in English, clear, recognizable and durable.
