KC certification in Korea

KC certification in Korea

KC (Korea certification) certification, formerly known as EK certification, is the Korean electrical and electronic products safety certification system, namely KC mark certification. It is a compulsory safety certification system implemented by Kats on January 1, 2009 according to the electric appliances Safety Control Act.

In order to avoid repeated certification, since July 1, 2012, EMC and safety have been managed separately. For electrical and electronic products applying for Korean certification, KC certificate and KCC Certificate (New MSIP) must be obtained respectively according to their safety and EMC requirements. There are two KC certification organizations: Korea testing certification (KTC) and Korea Electrical Testing Institute (KTL). These two are not only KC's certification institutions, but also qualification testing laboratories.

In terms of safety standards, all products entering the Korean market need to comply with Korean safety standard k (similar to IEC standard), and the requirements of Korea must be met when using IEC standard. The national differences can be found in the announcement of IECEE CB system. In terms of EMC, Korean EMI standard is similar to CISPR standard, and EMS standard is similar to en standard.

According to the requirements of the latest "safety management law of electrical appliances", KC certification is divided into mandatory safety certification, self regulatory safety certification and supplier self confirmation according to the different hazard levels of products. The products controlled by mandatory safety certification are more dangerous than those controlled by supplier self confirmation.
